What is HHC-O? Synthetics and cannabinoid acetylation
The definition of synthetic cannabinoids means one of two things. First, synthetic cannabinoids are compounds that do not exist in nature and must be made in a laboratory, like HHC-O. Also synthetic can be a cannabinoid that does exist in nature, but in such minimal amounts that to produce enough for use in consumer products, it must still be synthesized in a laboratory.
HHC-O belongs to the first category and HHC to the second. In hemp plants, HHC is found in trace amounts in pollen. HHC-O is the acetate version of HHC. This is produced by a process known as LTA decarboxylation. To understand what this means, let’s back up a bit. We all know about delta 9 THC, the main psychoactive compound in the plant. Delta 9 THC is the result of light/heat induced THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) decarboxylation. Similarly, THC-O is the result of delta 9 THC decarboxylation, however, it is done using a completely different method: LTA decarboxylation.
LTA decarboxylation uses a very toxic compound known as lead tetraacetate which promotes oxidation and causes oxidative decarboxylation to form the acetate ester. Acetate ester does not occur naturally and can only be produced using some kind of chemical catalyst. As such, HHC-O-Acetate is a synthetic analog of HHC. While it is gaining popularity especially in vape products, it is important to know that it is NOT a naturally occurring compound in cannabis, it is completely synthetic from all points of view.
All this does not mean that synthetics are inherently bad. If they are safe and produced by a seasoned professional, they can be fun and certainly have a place in both medical and recreational settings. But you certainly won’t get the same high or experience with these products as you would with the real thing. If you know what to expect, you won’t be disappointed.
What about the new HHC-O cartridges?
For now, few vendors still sell HHC-O. HHC-O is “up to 1.5 times stronger than HHC” and “has a very low viscosity, making it almost liquid at room temperature, creating an amazing vaping experience.”
HHC-O is often described as feeling similar to delta 9 THC, with a “sativa” effect. Our regular users have found this to be a slightly lighter version of delta 9, but these are regular cannabis users with a very high tolerance, so your experience may vary. Given the performance of HHC-O, coupled with vendor claims that the acetate version is 1.5x stronger, it is reasonable to assume how HHC-O may affect them,
All that being said, as we always like to offer all the latest products at the best possible prices, we have several deals on HHC-O vaporizers available in our shop. If you are interested in trying this compound for yourself, we invite you to purchase.
