What are the differences ?
There is a lack of consensus around HHC’s potency. The complication arises, in part, from the fact that when the cannabinoid is manufactured, the end result is a mixture of two different kinds of HHC molecules: 9R HHC actively binds to the body’s natural endocannabinoid receptors, while 9S HHC, because of its slightly different molecular structure, doesn’t do so nearly as well.

Badanie wykazało ogromne zmniejszenie wyniku wskaźnika NPI z 44,3 do 12,9, co oznacza wysoki spadek agresji, pobudzenia, apatii czy drażliwości. Sukces tych wyników doprowadził do przeprowadzenia kolejnych badań klinicznych, tym razem już na większa skalę.
Nie ma jednoznacznej odpowiedzi, na to jak dawkować olej CBD. Każdy z nas bowiem ma własne zapotrzebowanie i chłonność systemu endokannabinoidowego. Still, with shorter days, insufficient sunlight, or bad weather, many people experience depressive disorders. They are manifested by a bad mood, sleep disturbances, appetite disturbances, problems with concentration or decreased self-esteem. For this reason, we decided to briefly explain how and if CBD works for depression at all. Depression is one of the most common mental disorders. It significantly reduces the quality of life, increasing the risk of developing other diseases. According to the World Health Organization, by 2020 it will be the second most common cause of disability in the world and the most common cause of death. While there are many effective treatments for and help people with depression, they often go unrecognized and untreated.
The serotonin systemSerotonin, commonly known as the happiness hormone, is associated with the regulation of mood, while depression with disorders of the serotonin metabolism, but this substance has a much more complex effect. It also affects the functioning of many other neurotransmitters and, which may be surprising – the digestive system – 90% of serotonin is produced in the intestines. As a result, it regulates various body functions and behaviors. In chemical parlance, serotonin is a 5-hydroxyl derivative of trypamine, or 5-HT for short. It binds to serotonin receptors, of which as many as seven different types have been identified, within which there are further subtypes. Drugs and substances that affect our body through the serotonin system are either agonists of serotonin receptors – i.e. they stimulate them, or antagonists – i.e. inhibit their action.
Serotonin and CBDCannabidiol binds to serotonin receptors by affecting several different receptors, showing different actions. In addition, it shows little resemblance to the receptors of the endocannabinoid system – that is, the system directly related to it. It modifies the serotonin 5-HT1A receptor, the dysfunction of which can cause depression and the formation of drug states. CBD partially stimulates the receptor, thereby increasing the production of serotonin and dopamine. Research has shown that CBD reduces stress and the resulting anxiety after a single dose. In addition, it improves the quality of sleep, which is necessary for the proper functioning of the brain, which in turn affects the mood.
TestsClinical trials by the Maine Research Institute have confirmed the depression-relieving and mood-stabilizing effects of CBD oil by activating paralimbic and limbic areas in the patient’s brain. In turn, laboratory studies conducted at the University of Chicago in 2012 confirmed that medical marijuana, as well as CBD, are effective agents in treating depression. What is rheumatoid arthritis?
Rheumatoid arthritis or RA for short is an inflammatory disease of a chronic nature that affects the joints and organs. During its occurrence, progressive distortions and stiffening can be observed. Untreated RA can cause joint damage and disability, but also organ damage and death. It is an inflammatory disease that gradually damages cartilage, bones, ligaments and tendons. It is accompanied by pain and swelling. The causes of the disease are not clear, but the most common are the genetic burden and a defect in the immune system.
The factors influencing the development of the disease are:
- genetics – the risk of developing RA is much higher if the disease occurs earlier in the family;
- immune system dysfunction – causing bad tissue recognition as “enemy” and producing autoantibodies to destroy them;
- stress – in some cases, severe stress affects the formation of RA,
- addiction to cigarettes – people addicted to tobacco are at increased risk,
- gender – women are much more likely to suffer from RA, infection – some viruses or bacteria can cause the disease.
How to treat RA?
The basis in the fight against RA are immunosuppressive drugs, i.e. drugs that weaken the reactivity of the immune system. The treatment is also supplemented with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and glucocorticoids. Recently, biological drugs have also been used, targeting individual pro-inflammatory cytokines, generally administered together with a disease-modifying drug for a year or two or longer, depending on the indications. Numerous studies also confirm the beneficial effects of CBD in treating this disease, which, unlike conventional immunosuppressants, can reduce autoimmunity without affecting the response to infections or cancer.
How does CBD affect RA symptoms?
The positive effect of cannabidiol on RA symptoms begins in the brain. This substance acts on the body thanks to two receptors – CB1, which is most concentrated in the brain, and CB2, which is most concentrated in the joints. Relief of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis is caused by CB2 by eliminating some of the abnormal activities of the immune system. Activating the CB1 receptor reduces pain sensitivity in degenerative joints. How to apply CBD for this disease? For rheumatoid arthritis, topical and internal CBD administration is recommended. When it comes to local pain, it is worth using creams or ointments, but the consumption of oils or capsules will also be helpful.
The analgesic effects of CBD are often mentioned in the context of the therapeutic effects of cannabinoids. Headaches and migraines are the most common sources of pain in humans. Therefore, the use of CBD is considered a good alternative to pain medications containing ibuprofen among others. These ailments are usually attributed to dysfunctional brainstem centers, but are considered an unresolved medical mystery. Using CBD may seem like a better way to relieve pain than taking medications that contain the already mentioned ibuprofen. Also, paracetamol, and traps that constrict blood vessels and block pain pathways in the brain.
Migraines and the endocannabinoid system
One theory of the potential causes of migraine is the possible dysregulation of the endocannabinoid system. It is a complex network of receptors and chemicals that work to modulate pain, the immune system, sleep, appetite, memory and mood.
Scientists have been able to observe several mechanisms of the endocannabinoid system that may influence migraine attacks. Anandamide – one of the main endocannabinoids in the body – relieves pain and strengthens serotonin 5-HT1A receptors. These studies also suggest that endocannabinoids inhibit the trigeminovascular system. In 2007, a study was also conducted at the University of Perugia. During it, scientists measured the levels of endocannabinoids in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with chronic migraines. Finding much smaller amounts of anandamide, they found that “this may reflect a decline in the endocannabinoid system in these patients, which may be contributing to chronic headache.”
Are migraines a sign of clinical CBD deficiency?
Clinical endocannabinoid deficiency is a term coined by neurologist and cannabinoid researcher Dr. Ethan Russo. It arose in response to the association between lower endocannabinoid levels in patients with migraine. Russo relied on the premise that many brain disorders were related to a lack of certain neurotransmitters, including acetylcholine. The neurologist suggested that “comparable failure in endocannabinoid levels may manifest similarly in certain disorders that exhibit predictable clinical features as a consequence of this inconvenience.”
In an interview with the media, however, he described: “If you don’t have enough endocannabinoids, you feel pain where there shouldn’t be pain. You’ll be sick and nauseous. You’ll have a lowered seizure threshold. And a litany of other problems.”
According to Russo, this deficiency can be made up by introducing plant cannabinoids that act similarly to those found in our body and stimulate endocannabinoid receptors. CB1 agonists such as Marinol and Nabilone have been tested for migraine. Russo suggests that the endocannabinoid system requires a “gentle nudge” rather than the “hard push” given by these synthetic variants. Low doses of hemp extract are suggested. One of the variants of taking CBD is the simplest and most effective method, i.e. the sublingual method. It is enough to place a few drops of CBD oil under your tongue.
